The Braid-Podobedov Duo present Renaissance and Baroque music with a fresh, contemporary twist, alongside new works by David Braid, including the world premiere of his Symphony for Two
Guitarist David Braid and pianist Sergei Podobedov are a unique ensemble combining the past and future with refreshing interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque music alongside new works. The two originally teamed up to play jazz at the Royal College of Music but decided to apply their contemporary instruments to the great contrapuntal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The combination of piano and electric archtop guitar, usually associated with jazz, lends a beautifully mellow quality to the works of Sweelinck, Bach and Byrd and the two blend seamlessly to produce an exceptional tone.
David and Sergei have devised a special programme for Wilton’s, using their own transcriptions of the composer's works, together with David's own compositions, specially created for their unusual and idiomatic instrumentation.
The Braid-Podobedov Duo have recently appeared at: The Forge, Camden; The Studio at St James Theatre; The Schott Recital Room, St Bride’s Church, Fairfield Hall and many others. Wilton’s is delighted to welcome their unique style of performance to The Chrysalis Club.
