A new play by Katharine Armitage, with music by Robert Schumann

2nd November to 3rd November . 7:30pm to 8:30pm . No interval
£7.50 · £5 Concessions (in the Cocktail Bar)

“The most interesting thing about the musical genius that is Schumann is that there are two of them…”

In spite of opposition, Robert Schumann marries his beloved Clara. Their wedding party is one to remember and, as the anniversaries go by, the couple are determined to keep the magic and music of that occasion alive. However, although Clara and Robert return each year to the drinking house where they celebrated their union, nothing else in their lives remains the same. Each return visit seems to tear them apart; jealousy, frustration, revolution, insanity, family and music strain their relationship to breaking point. Has the Schumanns’ harmonious duet become two discordant musical lines?

Join Robert and Clara Schumann in an evening of song and celebration, despair and love as they sing their way through the years and invite you into their glorious yet deeply human story.

An interactive theatrical experience from Re:Sound Music Theatre, in collaboration with Oxford Lieder Festival and Arts Council England, weaving together the Lieder of Robert Schumann with an original script and performed by the company’s trademark cast of singer-actor-musicians.
