It’s 1937: Amelia Earhart, the most famous person on the planet, has gone missing in her silver Electra aeroplane, just as she was approaching the final leg of her first round-the-world flight. 40 years later – and 2,000 miles away in Australia – an elderly woman discovers a jar of freckle cream on the beach. Could it offer a clue to the disappearance of Amelia? So begins a story that takes us from the Australian Outback to America and back again, with a huge cast of exciting characters, as we follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest pioneers of the 20th century.

Silver Electra is a new family show by English Touring Opera, whose other recent productions include the award-winning Laika the Spacedog and Shackleton’s Cat. It is suitable for children aged 9-14 and their families.
The show is performed by a cast of four singers, accompanied by a live band and a wide range of percussion instruments. There will be opportunities to ask questions and meet the cast after the show.

Composer: Russell Hepplewhite

Praise for ETO’s Laika and Shackleton’s Cat:

“I would recommend people to see this opera because it is great and a very dramatic story and gives you a taste of great adventures. And although the singing is very loud it is awesome!” Theo, age 9

“I love opera now. What have I been missing?” Callum, age 10

They like it

  • Compelling and atmospheric… I was as gripped as the children clearly were

****. The Times (on Laika and Shackleton’s Cat)

  • English Touring Opera did the near impossible by getting a bunch of seven- to 10-year-olds to watch a new opera about Ernest Shackleton’s expedition to the Antarctic… Deftly done with the highest musical standards

The Observer (on Laika and Shackleton’s Cat)
