Vision:
That Wilton’s makes an important cultural contribution to the life of London, and the nation, for generations to come.
Mission:
To sustain the East End building and its unique spirit with a programme of extraordinary theatre and music, made for all of London and everyone with a curious imagination.
Wilton’s is truly unique and offers each generation a living piece of history. Walking along its echoing corridors, touching the cool stone-walls, there is a palpable sense of history. It was built by John Wilton in 1858 and was a centre of variety and entertainment for the East End. Then the first ever Ethiopian working men’s club in the UK (1920’s), a refuge for anti-fascists in the nearby Battle of Cable St (1936), an air raid shelter, a film set (Sherlock Holmes, Chaplin) and concert venue for legendary artists such as Kate Bush and Bryan Ferry. More recently an acclaimed arts space, which since the 1990’s, has seen work ranging from Fiona Shaw reciting The Wasteland to our current, critically acclaimed programme of theatre, dance, opera and cabaret.
We are committed to ensuring that Wilton’s will survive and be there for generations to come. We can only do this with the help of the trusts, foundations and individuals who help us achieve our mission.
