Battleship Potemkin (1925) with Live Score

“Shoulder to shoulder. The land is ours. Tomorrow is ours.”

In the midst of the Russian Revolution, the crew of the battleship Potemkin mutiny, with dramatic consequences.

Few films have changed cinema as profoundly as Sergei Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin. A landmark of revolutionary filmmaking, it remains astonishingly powerful over a century after its creation: visceral, rhythmic and electrifying, with images and editing that still echo through the language of modern cinema.

Now, experience Eisenstein’s masterpiece as it was meant to be experienced — with live accompaniment by the extraordinary pianist Bel Comeau of The Lucky Dog Picturehouse.

Eisenstein’s influence can be felt everywhere from action cinema to music videos, advertising and contemporary editing.  His legacy is not simply that of a great director, but of a filmmaker who fundamentally changed how cinema could communicate.

The musicians of The Lucky Dog Picturehouse have specialised in bringing silent film to life for almost 20 years; lecturing and performing at venues such as BFI Southbank, Loco Film Festival and Manchester University.
