Everyone is strangely drawn to Billy Budd, the handsome sailor. Conscripted to fight on a warship where the authorities are nervous of protest and mutiny, Billy Budd is a calming, shining presence.
But after the ship’s policeman unexpectedly makes a false accusation against him, Billy cannot find the words to defend himself. When an actual crime is committed, the hastily arranged trial that follows is a very warped version of ‘justice’.
Adapted from the novella by Herman Melville and combined with sea shanties sung by the ensemble, including ‘Drunken Sailor,’ ‘Wellerman’ and ‘Blow The Man Down,’ this brand new piece of music theatre is presented for the first time in a staged concert version.
The Faction return to the iconic Wilton’s Music Hall for the sixth time, following their acclaimed productions of The Talented Mr Ripley (now on UK tour), Macbeth and Howl.
