When Louise Glück died in October 2023, aged 80, she left behind her thirteen volumes of poetry, stretching from 2021 back to 1968 – a remarkably various sequence, crowned in 2020 with the Nobel Prize for Literature.
At its midpoint are two collections, Meadowlands (1996) and Vita Nova (1999), published consecutively, whose subject is the end of a marriage. The poems of Meadowlands speak from within that experience, faithful to its confusion. They speak in many voices: long-suffering, impatient, reconciled, unreasonable, tender, petty, humorous, desperate, angry, mournful, desolate. Vita Nova is written in the aftermath, reflecting from a greater distance, and facing forward as well as back. In both volumes we encounter daily bickering, minutely notated as passionate aria; household pets recast as household gods; the whole prose of married life whittled into lines as spare and essential as Greek myth. Together these volumes form a kind of diptych, as attentive to the surface and the soul as any of the great marriage studies of their era – hilariously, painfully accurate.
Dead Poets Live are delighted to be returning to Wilton’s this autumn to present these two collections together, and to give the miraculous and distinctive voice of these poems the appreciation it deserves.

Nina is a renowned German actress best known for her performance in Todd Field’s feature film TÁR, playing opposite Cate Blanchett. She is internationally acclaimed for her long-standing collaboration with director Christian Petzold. For the feature film YELLA, she won a Silver Bear Award for Best Actress and a German Film Award for Best Leading Actress. They also collaborated on TOTER MANN, WOLFSBURG, JERICHOW, BARBARA and PHOENIX.
On television, Hoss recently starred in the Netflix limited series SHADOWPLAY/THE DEFEATED. Nina earned a Screen Actors Guild nomination for the outstanding performance of an ensemble in the series HOMELAND for Showtime. Nina can most recently be seen in the third season of TOM CLANCY’S JACK RYAN for Amazon opposite John Krasinski. On stage, she has helmed many plays on Germany”s most acclaimed theatre stages. Amongst them Schaubühne and Deutsches Theater Berlin and recently starred in Benedict Andrew’s adaptation of Chekhov’s THE CHERRY ORCHARD which played at the Domnar Warehouse London and St. Ann”s Warehouse NYC.
Nina’s other credits include Edward Berger’s BLOCH, the lead role in Ina Weisse’s THE AUDITION, a performance in which she was awarded Best Actress at both San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival. Nina also starred alongside Stellan Skarsgard in RETURN TO MONTAUK by Volker Schlöndorff and alongside Phillip Seymor Hoffman and Willem Dafoe in Anton Corbijn’s MOST WANTED MAN.
Nina can most recently be seen in Nia DaCosta’s feature film HEDDA as Eileen Lovborg, alongside Tessa Thompson, in which she was awarded the Tribute Performer Award at Toronto Film Festival. She is currently collaborating again with Benedict Andrews in ELECTRA/PERSONA, alongside Cate Blanchett at the National Theatre London.
